People of all ages want to be themselves. I forget if we have had this video up before, but even if we have, it’s never bad to watch it again. In short, boys fail so much in schools because our conventional schools tell our boys this message: Be girls!
I think that goes for most of Western culture actually. Unless you are a crime fighter, a sports hero, or a soldier, you’re not a man.
What about a boys only room at our school? I think that’s a cool idea. (of course, a girls only room is fine also)
If the SM decides to have one, the school will have one. It’s why all(?) Sudbury schools have a Quiet Room. The need is so great (to be able to get away from brouhaha) that there are always students who ask for a Quiet Room and enough to vote for one. Even my current school (which is not a Sudbury school) designated a room as Quiet Room during lunch this year because of popular demand (from students!).
I can picture the hypothetical Boys Only room tho… with a sign on the door, saying: “NO GOILS ALLOWED”. Hehe.
I don’t think boys will play “educational” games. She’s still talking about rescuing the existing school system instead of a complete paradigm shift of a Sudbury school. We would have to get rid of the standards of learning and the entire Federal Department of Education first to really make a change in schools. President Reagan promised to abolish the Dept. of Education but never went through with it. President Bush tightened the screws by establishing standards of learning across the country. So, unless this stuff is dealt with at the Federal level, nothing is going to happen at the local level since the local level takes orders from the Federal level.
I was thinking similar thoughts. The jury is still out on whether the traditional model of “we decide what you will learn” can ever be rescued through educational games.
